Children's Drumming Class
Children will explore the sounds of a variety of African percussion
instruments such as the Djembe drum, the African xylophone called
Balafon, the gourd shaker called Shekere and the bass drum called
Djun Djun. After hearing and playing all the instruments we will
focus on rhythm exercises using the Djembe drums. We will also
sing several African children's songs. The primary goal is for
children to have fun expressing themselves through percussion
music and to gain a facility with rhythmic time keeping.
Parent/Child Drumming Class
In this class parents will participate in a shared learning
experience with their children. The course will include all of
the activities described in the children's Drumming Class with
a focus on call and response exercises that the parent and child
can practice together at home.
Pre-school Drumming Class
The pre-school drumming class provides a general introduction
to music with a focus on percussion. Children are encouraged to
explore a variety of percussion sounds with both traditional African
instruments and with found objects such as sea shells. The pre-schoolers
will also learn an African counting song.
